To be eligible your child must be:

- Under the age of 18
- Eligible for Medicare in Australia
- Receiving a payment from Centrelink at least once a year, or have a parent/guardian receiving a payment at least once a year.

Schedule limits and what’s covered

What dental services are covered and how much coverage does your child receive?
The maximum amount available to eligible patients is $1026. This amount is available to claim over a two year period.

The services that are covered include:

- Check-ups
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fluoride treatment
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions

The services that are not covered include:

- Orthodontic dental work
- Cosmetic dental work
- Any dental services in a hospital under general anaesthesia

The 2 year period

You can claim up to $1,026 for each child over 2 consecutive calendar years.

The 2 year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year in which your child both becomes eligible and receives their first dental service.

You can use the full amount of $1,026 in the first year however by doing so, this will leave no funds for the second year. If you don’t use the full $1,026 in the first year, you can use it in the second year however, you can only use it in the second year if your child remains eligible.

If you don’t use the full amount within the 2 calendar years, it does not roll over.. you lose it. You also won’t be able to use any remaining funds once your child is no longer eligible.
